06/19/08 – LCWP
It’s almost Summer so it stays light until about 8:30. Me, Terry, Scott and his buddy Danny met at the Laguna Art School for a ride in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (LCWP). It was about 150,000 degrees earlier today, so I had second thoughts about going, but I called the ride, so I needed to go, and I’m glad I did.
We headed up the long and steep Willow trail. It usually bakes on the way up, but today it was kind of cool. From there, we headed down the Old Emerald trail, which is fast and flowy. Another climb to the obligatory beer stop. Then we went into El Morro and rode Fenceline until we got to the end. We caught the Lizard trail, which is kind of illegal…uhh…unless you’re a docent…and it’s after hours…which I am…and it was…so I’m calling it legal. From there, we caught another semi-legal trail and ended up at the bottom and onto Laguna Canyon Road and back to the trucks.
Since Whiting Ranch and the Luge are still closed due to the fires, every able-bodied mountain biker descends on Aliso Woods on Thursdays. It’s been a nice change to do this ride. Very cool trails and not a whole lot of people out there.
