08/24/09 – 09/01/09 – “The Catch-Up” Post

Got back on the bike the day after we got back from Alaska and did a quick ride by myself.

Tuesday, we got out to Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and did a nice run up Willow and down a couple of trails (which will remain nameless for legal reasons).

On Friday, Dave and I had a sunset docent ride in Limestone.  We rode the Loma and Limestone ridges with about 10 guests and 3 other docents.  We saw 4 tarantulas, 3 deer, a baby racer and an owl.  It was a great ride and we finished just as the sun was going down.

Saturday was a blast.  It’s been over 100 degrees out here lately, so we said screw the heat, and decided to ride around the beach and go swimming.  Dave and Sagit and Janis and I piled our bikes in the trucks and started out in Balboa.  We rode along the boardwalk to Newport and hit a few bars along the way.  We spent some time on the beach too.  It was hot, so the water felt great.  About 10 minutes into the ride we needed to cool off in the Balboa Saloon…

Sunday was super hot as well.  Instead of riding, we went to the 1st annual OC Beerfest at Irvine Lake.  It wasn’t well publicized, so the crowds weren’t that big.  There were over 60 brewers there and unlimited tastings.  They had an 80′s metal  band and giveaways and food and 95.5 KLOS was there.  Needless to say, we all had a great time.  Special thanks to Janis and Lisa for being the DD’s.   They coincidentally had sobriety checkpoints on both ends of the street.  Here’s a shot of our motley crew near the end of the event.

Tuesday we were back out at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.  This time we hooked up two other trails (which will remain nameless for legal reasons).  This was a new route for us and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Here’s Danny and Sharon on one of the rock sections.
